‘1920 Evil Returns’ trailer - it is scarier than before!

With ‘1920’, director Vikram Bhatt delivered a hit movie from his camp in the year 2009. And this year, the filmmaker is back with yet another potential hit, ‘1920 Evil Returns’, based on the horror genre.
The trailer of the movie looks scary and if Tia’s performance is to be noticed closely, then it could be easy to say that by far this is one of her best works because she seems to have pulled off the act of a possessed woman very well.

‘1920 Evil Returns’ will hit the marquee in November 2012.

RF New Youth Studio Y-Films Announces 3 Movies And 7 New Stars

Yash Raj Film’s new youth films studio, Y-Films, launched with a bang in a young & fun event in line with the audience its catering to.

Themed like an 18 year old’s house party, the event unveiled its aggressive line up of 3 releases for 2011.

Keeping with its vision of being a platform for new talent, Y-Films also showcased the fresh crop of directors and stars of the 3 films.
Speaking on the new studio, Vice Chairman, Yash Raj Films, Aditya Chopra stated, “The youngest country in the world. Housing the largest movie going audience in the world. Youth! Its a segment that's not just too big - but too important - to ignore. Y-Films continues YRF's trend of breaking new genres. With a laser-sharp focus on youth, we hope to create a brand of cinema that will capture the hearts & imaginations of this elusive bunch and rock their world. Here's to a new revolution - that begins with 2 fingers!"

Y-Films is headed by Ashish Patil, formerly head of youth music channel, MTV in India. Patil adds,“Y-Films promise to deliver kick ass films of the youth, by the youth, for the youth. And be a platform for new talent – both on screen and behind the scenes – who will challenge, break and set new rules of story telling. Get ready to spread the Y-rus!”

The event played out the exclusive first looks of the 3 films and a ground-breaking new stop motion music video from the first release ‘Luv ka The End’. Directed by Bumpy, Luv ka The End features Shraddha Kapoor and introduces Taaha Shah. It has a foot-thumping soundtrack by Ram Sampath and is slated for release on 6th May.

Film #2 which is a rom-com against the backdrop of social networking is interestingly titled ‘Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge’ – a cheesy take off on one of YRF’s own earlier releases and colloquial internet lingo used for making friend requests. Directed by Nupur Asthana, it introduces 4 new faces, Saqib Saleem, Saba Azad, Nishant Dahiya & Tara D’souza and marks the Bollywood debut of desi folk-rocker Raghu Dixit as composer.

Film #3, on the other hand, is a tech-based caper, which is the story of India’s youngest and most twisted hacker titled ‘Virus Diwan’. With a tagline that reads ‘Enter. Infect. Escape’, it’s the launch pad for Arjun Kapoor.

Dressed in brand colors, the young new cast & crew, aptly represented the vibrancy, passion and energy of today’s youth. Movies truly seem ready to get rocked!
(Left to Right) Nishant Dahiya, Tara D'Souza, Taaha Shah, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Saba Azad, Saqib Saleem.

Agneepath Remake 2011

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra

Today, the remake of Agneepath, produced by Karan Johar, and directed by his former assistant Karan Malhotra, flags off on the streets of Mumbai. It’s a night shoot that will extend to the early hours, featuring the film’s supporting cast. Hrithik Roshan who plays the underworld don, Vijay D inanath Chauhan, will join the team later in the month, along with the romantic lead Priyanka Chopra, and Sanjay Dutt who takes over from Danny Denzongpa as the new bad man, Kancha Cheena.
The 1990 film was directed by the late Mukul Anand. Karan recalls visiting the sets in Mandwa during the filming of the climax when Amitabh Bachchan, the original Vijay, runs through flames. Kancha is killed in an encounter and Vijay is fatally wounded. Reciting Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s famous poem,Agneepath, he explains his reasons for taking to a life of crime and breathes his last with his head cradled in his mother, Suhasini’s (Rohini Hattangadi) lap.
“I remember my father (producer Yash Johar) in a light pink shirt, sweating profusely, personally overseeing the arrangements. He wanted it to be a smooth run for Mr Bachchan and it was,” says Karan 11 years later, adding that his reasons for remaking Agneepath is that it’s a film his dad was really proud of, and had been shattered when it failed commercially.
Karan promises that this tribute to his dad’s memory will make the box-office ring as he had intended. He, as a result, has reworked the original script, doing away with the character of the coconut seller Krishnan that fetched Mithun Chakraborty a best supporting actor award.
Hrithik reiterates that the remake is a radically different film:  “During the narration, I reacted emotionally to the subject as a new story with no strings attaching it to the old one. Had the intention been to just recreate the earlier film, I would not have done it. But what I heard sparked off my interest and I told myself, ‘I can do this, I will enjoy doing it!’”.
Mukul Anand had admitted to being inspired by the Hollywood classic Scarface. Vijay Dinanath Chauhan was modelled on Manya Surve, the first underworld gangster to be shot dead in a police encounter in Mumbai. Bachchan came up with a National Award-winning performance and even tried to copy the gangster’s voice. The husky impersonation, so unlike his usual baritone, had alienated the audience initially, and he had to redub his lines in his original voice.
“But in later years, whenever I recited my father’s lines from Agneepath, I have done it in a husky whisper and been flooded with compliments,” says Bachchan, who’s looking forward to seeing Hrithik’s spin on one of his most famous characters.
Hrithik refuses to reveal what improvisations he has up his sleeve but insists that the motive is not to take on Bachchan. He recalls watching the original film in a theatre with a group of children. He reminisces, “I was completely blown away by Mr Bachchan’s look and voice. I remember the background score (based on the 1986 song, Rendez-Vous-2…by French composer Jean Michel Jarre) and the sounds of the eagle flying.”
