Sonu Sood turns villian for Rajinikanth’s Rana

With the colossal success of Dabangg, filmmakers and renowned thespians have noticed the villainous swagger that Sonu Sood possesses on screen. One such actor to take notice is superstar Rajinikanth.

According to our sources, after Rajinikanth saw Sonu as Cheddi Singh in Dabangg and Pashupati in the Tamil hit, Arundhati and was very impressed with his negative roles. So, he soon cast him in the much-coveted negative role for his Hindi-Tamil-Telugu trilingual film Rana.
Rana is slated to be a period-action film, based on the lines of the famous Hollywood blockbuster 300. Directed by KS Ravi Kumar, who also made projects like Muthu and Narasimha, the film is to be shot in India and abroad. It will also include foreign technicians.
Hyped at being the most expensive Indian film ever made, the film is being co-produced by Eros International and Ocher Studios, the production house run by Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya. Deepika Padukone has been drafted as the leading lady for the film, while AR Rahman will compose its music. Ratnavelu of Robot fame will return as cinematographer for the trilingual film.

Rajnikanth to play a Triple Action Role in Rana

Eros International and Chennai based-Ocher Studios have joined hands to co-produceRana, superstar Rajnikanth’s next movie in which he plays a triple role.
Rana will be directed by K S Ravikumar who in the past has directed the southern superstar’s hits such as Muthu and Padayappa.

Scheduled to go on floor in March this year, Rana will be a live action magnum opus with Rajni playing triple role and will be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.
Music would be scored by A R Rahman, Director of Photography would be Ratnavelu, Editing would be done by Antony. The technical and special effects director will be Soundarya Rajnikanth; Charles Darby of Eyeqube Studios — renowned visual effects luminary and an Emmy award winner — will be the visual effects supervisor of the film. The film is scheduled to release in early 2012.
Speaking on the development, Sunil Lulla, Managing Director, Eros International Media Ltd said, "Rajni fans will be treated to a triple role essayed by their favourite actor. Rana is going to be far different from any of the recent Rajni films, a complete live action magnum opus with loads of entertainment for his fans."
Soundarya Rajnikanth, Director of Ocher Studios Private Limited, and younger daughter of the filmstar, added, "We are very pleased to announce this partnership with Eros International for Rana. We hope to make a film that will live up to the huge expectations of the movie-goers."
Rajnikanth’s last film Robot  was a super hit that released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, and grossed more than Rs 400 crore worldwide.

Trisha to Star opposite Rajinikanth in Rana

Soundarya Rajinikanth’s Ocher Picture Productions in association with Warner Bros Entertainment is producing an animation film which was initially named Sultan The Warrior and later changed to Hara. The film is now finally given the title Rana.
Originally, the film was to be only in the animation format. But Soundarya wanted the last 30 minutes of the film to be live action with Rajinikanth and Trisha. This part will be directed by K.S. Ravikumar. For the animation part, Rajini and Trisha will lend their voices. AR Rahman composes the music for the film.
The animation has been handled by both Indian and Hollywood experts and the film has been under production since last two years. The film, in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English, is being planned for a world-wide release in August.

Rajinikanth Next Film Raana with K.S.Ravikumar

The variety the actor brought to the three roles he played in the film took him to new levels of stardom.

Yet again, Rajinikanth will play three roles in hisnext project ‘Raana’, which brings the Rajinikanth-director K.S.Ravikumar-composer A.R. Rahman combination together after nearly a decade.
For most fans of ‘superstar’ Rajinikanth, the films ‘Muthu’ and ‘Padaiyappa’ made by this combination will invariably figure in the list of all-time favourites. The films came with the stamp of a thorough entertainer with liberal doses of humour and music that made waves.
Though talk of the possible release date of what was originally ‘Sultan the Warrior’ kept surfacing in Kollywood every now and then, each time with a new name for the much talked-about animation film, it will possibly follow ‘Raana’, sources say.

A few months ago, news about ‘Sultan the Warrior’ being readied for release in the name ‘Hara’ started doing the rounds. Some believed that K.S. Ravikumar would direct select portions of the film.
However, news about ‘Raana’ has now rendered all those talk futile.
Sources also say that ‘Raana’ will be produced by the actor’s wife Lata Rajinikanth, for Ocher Studios. The full length feature film, will have Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone playing the female lead.
Rajinikanth is also roping in cinematographer Rathnavelu, who worked with him in ‘Enthiran’.
Rajeevan is the art director. Director K.S. Ravikumar whose collaboration with Rajinikanth set new records at the box office, had been working with Kamal Haasan in the last few years, bringing out films such as the hilarious ‘Panchatantiram’, ‘Dasavatharam’ and the more recent, ‘Manmadan Ambu’.
