Inception Gets 4 Oscar Award

Inception Gets 4 Oscar Award Follows:
  • Best Cinematography Award
  • Best Sound Editing Award
  • Best Sound Mixing Award
  • Best Visual Effects Award

Inception is a 2010 science fiction film, which was written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Dileep Rao, Tom Berenger, and Michael Caine. DiCaprio plays Dom Cobb, a specialized spy or corporate espionage thief. His work consists of secretly extracting valuable commercial information from the unconscious mind of his targets while they are asleep and dreaming. Unable to visit his children, Cobb is offered a chance to regain his old life in exchange for an almost impossible task: "inception", the planting of an idea into a target’s subconscious. This won an award for Best Visual Affect in the 83rd Academy Awards
Development began roughly nine years before Inception was released. In 2001, Nolan wrote an 80-page treatment about dream-stealers, presenting the idea to Warner Bros. The story was originally envisioned as a horror film, inspired by concepts of lucid dreaming and dream incubation. Feeling he needed to have more experience with large-scale films, Nolan opted to work on Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight. He spent six months polishing up the script for Inception before Warner Bros. purchased it in February 2009.Filming spanned six countries and four continents, beginning in Tokyo on June 19, 2009, and finishing in Canada in late November of the same year.
Inception was officially budgeted at $160 million, a cost that was split between Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Nolan’s reputation and success with The Dark Knight helped secure the film’s $100 million in advertising expenditure.Inception premiered in London on July 8, 2010, and was released in both conventional and IMAX theaters on July 14, 2010.Released to critical acclaim, the film grossed over $21 million on its opening day, with an opening weekend gross of $62.7 million. It received 8 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Original Screenplay (Nolan), and Cinematography (Pfister). In addition to strong box office results, Inception has also grossed $68,644,403 in DVD-sales.

Shahrukh Khan wants Lady Gaga for ‘Ra.One

Big plans for his big-budget film!Shahrukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned for his dream projectRa.One. First, SRK got Akon to shoot a special song for the film, then it was heard he wants Shakira. Now the star has Lady GaGa on his wishlist for Ra.One.

As per recent reports, Shahrukh has especially asked Akon to approach Gaga with the idea of doing a video for Ra.One. Akon is apparently close to Gaga because he is the man who discovered her and helped in launching her music career.
Given the legions of fans Lady Gaga has over the world, her nod to the special song forRa.One could be a big scoop. Obviously, the publicity that comes along with it is a bonus.
On the other hand, the makers of Ra.One are also trying to rope in Latino pop sensationShakira. It’s learned that if Akon has been asked to convince Gaga, director Anubhav Sinha and Shahrukh are also sending Shakira feelers for the same.
SRK’s Ra.One is set to release this October.

Sonu Sood turns villian for Rajinikanth’s Rana

With the colossal success of Dabangg, filmmakers and renowned thespians have noticed the villainous swagger that Sonu Sood possesses on screen. One such actor to take notice is superstar Rajinikanth.

According to our sources, after Rajinikanth saw Sonu as Cheddi Singh in Dabangg and Pashupati in the Tamil hit, Arundhati and was very impressed with his negative roles. So, he soon cast him in the much-coveted negative role for his Hindi-Tamil-Telugu trilingual film Rana.
Rana is slated to be a period-action film, based on the lines of the famous Hollywood blockbuster 300. Directed by KS Ravi Kumar, who also made projects like Muthu and Narasimha, the film is to be shot in India and abroad. It will also include foreign technicians.
Hyped at being the most expensive Indian film ever made, the film is being co-produced by Eros International and Ocher Studios, the production house run by Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya. Deepika Padukone has been drafted as the leading lady for the film, while AR Rahman will compose its music. Ratnavelu of Robot fame will return as cinematographer for the trilingual film.

Tapasee Pannu Kajal Agarwal Samantha to Star in Surya’s Matraan

Surya’s next film ‘Matraan’ is the closely followed film by the media and fans after Rajinikanth’s ‘Rana’. Surya has teamed up with K.V Anand for the second time and the film also bags the Ayan movie team including Harris Jayaraj and writer Subha.

Surya playing siamese twins in Matraan and Sonakshi Sinha being considered for the female lead role have reached every nook and corner by now. The latest sensational news is that Surya is likely to romance Tamil hot favourites Kajal Agarwal, Tapasee Pannu or Samantha in Matraan.
Since the movie will be made in Tamil and Telugu, (most probably in Hindi too) it is said that KV Anand is looking for a mush familiar face in South rather than opting for a Bollywood heroine. All the three babes are well known in Telugu but the reigning beauties are Kajal Agarwal and Tapasee Pannu.

Agneepath Remake 2011

Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra

Today, the remake of Agneepath, produced by Karan Johar, and directed by his former assistant Karan Malhotra, flags off on the streets of Mumbai. It’s a night shoot that will extend to the early hours, featuring the film’s supporting cast. Hrithik Roshan who plays the underworld don, Vijay D inanath Chauhan, will join the team later in the month, along with the romantic lead Priyanka Chopra, and Sanjay Dutt who takes over from Danny Denzongpa as the new bad man, Kancha Cheena.
The 1990 film was directed by the late Mukul Anand. Karan recalls visiting the sets in Mandwa during the filming of the climax when Amitabh Bachchan, the original Vijay, runs through flames. Kancha is killed in an encounter and Vijay is fatally wounded. Reciting Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s famous poem,Agneepath, he explains his reasons for taking to a life of crime and breathes his last with his head cradled in his mother, Suhasini’s (Rohini Hattangadi) lap.
“I remember my father (producer Yash Johar) in a light pink shirt, sweating profusely, personally overseeing the arrangements. He wanted it to be a smooth run for Mr Bachchan and it was,” says Karan 11 years later, adding that his reasons for remaking Agneepath is that it’s a film his dad was really proud of, and had been shattered when it failed commercially.
Karan promises that this tribute to his dad’s memory will make the box-office ring as he had intended. He, as a result, has reworked the original script, doing away with the character of the coconut seller Krishnan that fetched Mithun Chakraborty a best supporting actor award.
Hrithik reiterates that the remake is a radically different film:  “During the narration, I reacted emotionally to the subject as a new story with no strings attaching it to the old one. Had the intention been to just recreate the earlier film, I would not have done it. But what I heard sparked off my interest and I told myself, ‘I can do this, I will enjoy doing it!’”.
Mukul Anand had admitted to being inspired by the Hollywood classic Scarface. Vijay Dinanath Chauhan was modelled on Manya Surve, the first underworld gangster to be shot dead in a police encounter in Mumbai. Bachchan came up with a National Award-winning performance and even tried to copy the gangster’s voice. The husky impersonation, so unlike his usual baritone, had alienated the audience initially, and he had to redub his lines in his original voice.
“But in later years, whenever I recited my father’s lines from Agneepath, I have done it in a husky whisper and been flooded with compliments,” says Bachchan, who’s looking forward to seeing Hrithik’s spin on one of his most famous characters.
Hrithik refuses to reveal what improvisations he has up his sleeve but insists that the motive is not to take on Bachchan. He recalls watching the original film in a theatre with a group of children. He reminisces, “I was completely blown away by Mr Bachchan’s look and voice. I remember the background score (based on the 1986 song, Rendez-Vous-2…by French composer Jean Michel Jarre) and the sounds of the eagle flying.”

Unknown – Movie Review

I liked this movie.  It isn’t Shakespeare and it’s certainly not Liam’s best work, but it has some dysphoric strangeness at times that will have you questioning how ‘you’ would react in a situation where you couldn’t convince anyone, not even your wife, that you were yourself.

Liam Neeson (Excalibur) leads this action thriller as Dr. Martin Harris a buzzing biotech researcher that’s been invited to Paris to present at a world-wide convention.  In a rushed drive to the airport, he falls victim to a car accident and awakens days later with no passport or identification.  Convinced his wife is desperately scouring the streets of Paris looking for him, he returns to their hotel only to find that another man has taken his identity and his wife is blatantly oblivious to his existence.  Determined, he recruits help from a local day worker Gina and a tenacious private investigator to help him piece his believed life back together.
It’s weird to watch someone go through a deconstruction of their inner beliefs.  I know who I am, why doesn’t anyone else believe me?  Neeson’s portrayal of Harris is both strong and vulnerable.  At times he makes you feel for his familial loss; at others you can see why this now 58 year old is still a viable kick-ass action star.  The real key is his voice.  It can portray anger, conviction, and determined resolve in such a mellifluous manner.  He needs to do more voice overs.
I was very pleased to see a graduated performance from January Jones (Anger Management) as Harris’ wife Elizabeth.  Not just a pretty face on display, she showed growth in her ability to act like an actor.  Witness the scene where she and Martin meet for the first time after the accident and you’ll be convinced.  Playing too small of a part, but very vital to the story was Frank Langella (Brainscan) as a life-long friend of Harris’ who arrives in Paris to help out.  Always a delight is Diane Kruger (National Treasure) asGina , a day worker who comes to Harris’ aid.  Her acting is never transparent thankfully, but even in this vehicle it’s very difficult not to focus on her striking looks and vibrant accent.
Unknown has a solid opening and a very revealing ending but the 2nd act is where it loses a bit of steam.  Still, watching Neeson kick ass while wrecking downtown Paris was just pure fun.  This movie won’t hit the magic $100 million mark because of the lull in its center, but it has enough surprise explosions and a cool (but used) plot twist that will keep viewers interested.

7 Khoon Maaf gets Mixed Reviews and Mixed Performance at Boxoffice

While Priyanka Chopra’s performance has been given a thumbs up, not all critics are happy with the flow of the film. While some say the movie loses its grip after the first hour, others feel the intense study of grief and grime is successful in touching the soul.
Says Taran Adarsh (Bollywood Hungama), "7 Khoon Maaf works in parts. A few stories – involving Neil Nitin Mukesh, John Abraham, Irrfan Khan and Annu Kapoor – are absorbing, while at least two could’ve been better narrated – Naseeruddin Shah and Aleksandr Dyachenko. The unfortunate part is that the uninteresting ones come in the latter half and coupled with its excessive length, the impact generated by a captivating first hour gets diluted in the process. Even the culmination doesn’t sweep you off your feet."

"This is a tough story to pull off and despite the voluminous talent on display here – from director-co-writer-composer Vishal Bhardwaj to Priyanka to co-stars like Irrfan Khan and Naseeruddin Shah – the film stumbles and fumbles." feels Anupama Chopra (NDTV).
Nikhal Kazmi (Times of India) warns the film is not for someone who’s just looking for entertainment, rather it has many layers to it. Says she, "7 Khoon Maaf is an intensely dark film which unfolds in shadows and silhouettes. So, if you aren’t mistakenly looking for entertainment here, you are going to love this half-lit canvas of crime and punishment which lays bare the innermost recesses of a tortured soul. Vishal never once slips and lets go of his hold on this intense study of grief and grime. From the very first shot, which explodes with a grimacing Priyanka pulling the trigger on God-knows-who, the director inexorably draws you into this welter of passion and crime. All the death play takes place in semi-darkness: an almost outward pouring of an evil soul."

Performances
"Amongst the remaining cast, Annu Kapoor leaves the maximum impact. He’s simply outstanding! John doesn’t really get much scope, Neil is effective, Irrfan is wonderfully restrained, Naseer is believable and Aleksandr is passable. Vivaan Shah, who narrates the story of Susanna, is a talent to watch out for. Though it’s his maiden film as an actor, it doesn’t seem like one. He is not your regular debutant and that’s what makes his character appear so real. Konkona Sen Sharma does well. Usha Uthup and the two male helps are good," says Taran Adarsh.

Box Office Performance
Saat Khoon Maaf started on the lower side as most would expect. The opening was around 30-35% on average at multiplexes and 15-20% at single screens.

An interesting comparison will be No One Killed Jessica released a few weeks back which started lowly but picked up in the evening and went on to do well at the box office. That film was also heroine orientated and had a similar release though Saat Khoon Maaf does have the presence of known male stars in small roles while No One Killed Jessica had no male leads.

Saat Khoon Maaf will not score in single screens and will be dependent on multiplex business in the big cities.

Sreesanth replaces injured Praveen

Praveen Kumar, the India fast bowler, has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an injured elbow and will be replaced by Sreesanth. The decision comes a day after Praveen underwent a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to gauge whether he had recovered from the injury sustained before the start of the one-day series in South Africa last month.
Praveen, 24 had been sent back immediately from South Africa as a precautionary measure to recuperate at the NCA. The recovery did not go as planned, however, and he consulted Dr Andrew Wallace, a London-based surgeon who has treated many Indian players including Sachin Tendulkar. Praveen has been a regular with the Indian one-day side for the past couple of years and was set to be a certain starter in the World Cup, but his injury healed too slowly to allow him to participate in the global tournament.
Sreesanth has established himself in the Test side but has been on the fringes of the one-day outfit. He has played only 51 one-dayers in more than five years since his debut in 2005, and has a bloated career economy rate of 6.01. But he proved effective in the two ODIs he's played over the past 12 months, bagging seven wickets for 77 runs.
The other fast bowlers in the Indian squad are Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel.
